Kitchen Interior Update

Last year during lockdown, we (and it seems most of the world!) decided to do some home updates. We worked with Hannah Dean Interiors, an interior designer to help us make some changes across the house.

Working with an Interior Designer

I wanted to work with an Interior Designer to help us update many of the rooms in our house without spending a lot of money by utilising plenty of furniture that we already had and investing in some new key pieces. Hannah is a local Interior Designer so we started the consultation with a walk around our house and a chat about our wants/ideas. Then a couple of weeks later, she presented us with a mood board with paint colours, furniture, art work etc. Alongside this she gave us a spreadsheet with links to purchase products in our own time.

There is a misconception that only those with very big budgets should have an Interior Designer. But Hannah picked out items from a range of places from West Elm to Ikea. Many also get discounts at certain stores which can often be passed on to clients! Although we had in-person consultations, Hannah also provides a range of packages including a 2-hour room consultation.

Kitchen Renovation

We actually bought our house because of the kitchen. The kitchen is a fairly neutral kitchen from Magnet. With a darker breakfast bar and sink units and lighter cupboards on the side. The surface is marble style but heat proof. Sorry I don’t have more info but this was all there when we moved in! The wooden board on the surface actually covers the induction hob (see below).

The changes we made were minimal in this room.

We repainted the walls the same colour; Farrow & Ball Shaded White and Strong White for the ceiling and some of the woodwork. Hannah suggested we paint the doors between the kitchen and sitting room black which I absolutely love! She also recommended that we have our paint colours matched for a cheaper, better quality paint – we used Johnstones.

Kitchen Interior Update

The main updates we made were to the dining area, replacing the mish-mash of dining chairs that we had with Cedak Wood & Cane chairs from La Redoute. We bought two black armchairs for the ends (these ones, currently on sale for £146) and then 6 black Cedak Wood Chairs (these ones, currently on sale for £209 for two).

The pendants were the hardest items to find. Hannah suggested getting a clear glass so that you could see through them as they hung down in the centre of the dining table. We eventually settled on these individual pendant lights from Cox and Cox – find similar here.

The plants and pots are all from Ikea, the Globe is the one my Grandfather used to have in his office and doubled up as the guestbook from our wedding, and the print was a wedding gift. The vegetable prints seen above are from Kew Gardens.
