Interiors Update: Inchyra Blue Sitting Room

Hannah (Hannah Dean Interiors), our interior designer (read more about our experience of working with her in this post) suggested we paint the wall with the rather obnoxiously big TV a darker colour to make the TV stand out less. I love the Inchyra Blue Farrow & Ball colour that Hannah suggested for the wall and inbuilt cupboards in our sitting room – we had it colour matched with Johnstone’s paint that we were told was better quality and longer lasting than F&B!

We already had the two sofas in here – the blue velvet with chaise which I love, it’s the Ariana Left Hand Facing Chaise End Corner Sofa in Sapphire Velvet from Made.com. Unfortunately they don’t seem to sell anymore but they have a number of similar options. Our other sofa was a bit of an impulse buy during a Sofa.com sale at House of Fraser and I don’t find it that comfy!

We upgraded our Ikea coffee table and bought some matching side tables from West Elm.

What I really liked about working with Hannah was that she sent us a spreadsheet with a number of furniture suggestions. But didn’t push us to order anything. I tried to wait for sales to purchase things. So I bought the West Elm products when they were having a 20% off sale. (Unfortunately much of my savings were negated by the high delivery fee!) Our coffee table is currently £300 off!

Interiors Update: Inchyra Blue Sitting Room

My favourite pieces of furniture in this room are the French club chairs.

Hannah found these at the Old Cinema in Chiswick and I’m in love with them. I had been searching on ebay and other auction sites for a while before we started working with Hannah. But had no idea how to trust the quality or authenticity of them. One of the main issues in this room before was that it felt like two separate rooms where the previous owners had built the extension.

By making a little reading area with club chairs, a gorgeous painting that was a wedding gift from my Grandfather, this lamp and it stops it feeling like a walkway through to the kitchen but creates a separate space from the sofa/tv area. I sit on the club chairs every morning drinking my coffee. You can also spot the race t-shirts I had made into a blanket by Too Many T-Shirts. (I’ve almost got enough to make another one!)

The chest of drawers were ones we picked up when we first moved in from Gumtree. We bought four pieces from a lady that up-cycled them locally for about £500 in total.

This one was my fave and the only one we’ve kept as it was. (We just repainted one of the others for the nursery which I’ll share in another blog.) The painting above we bought in Malawi on our Impact Marathon Week there many years ago. I love buying local art when we travel, every piece has a story. But getting it home can sometimes be a nightmare!

This room isn’t fully finished and will transition into more of a playroom over the next year. I’d love to eventually get the carpets ripped up and replaced with wood and rugs. And buy some more artwork for the walls. As well as get my Granny’s old kilt made into some cushions for the club chairs. I like the idea that the room (and rest of our house) will continue to evolve as our family grows and usage changes. And as we save to take on projects like the wooden flooring!
