5 Things Friday: In My Gym Bag

Yesterday, I had a nightmare- forgot my post gym underwear.
So I had two choices;
1. Wear my sweaty gym knickers
2. Go commando

Anyway…it got me thinking about the things that I normally keep in my gym bag.

Underwear
I usually keep a spare sports bra, pair of knickers and a pair of socks in my gym bags- for emergencies. As well as yesterday’s debacle, I’ve also had to wear a sports bra to work although at least it was a clean one.

Toiletries
I’ve got a little bag for my toiletries in my gym bag that includes

  • deodorant
  • dry shampoo
  • comb 
  • perfume
  • makeup
These goodies ensure that I can get ready for work at the gym in the morning, do a lunch time workout without necessarily showering after, or get ready for a night out. 

Workouts
A couple of printed workouts including treadmill and weights workouts, plus inspiration from magazines ensure that I never get to the gym and think ‘what shall I do’. Whilst I mostly do group exercise classes at the gym, it’s nice to know that I won’t be stuck for what to do if I go it alone. I particularly love following treadmill workouts.

Headphones
I cannot run on the treadmill without some sort of distraction, either watching TV, listening to music or zoning out to a podcast so a pair of headphones are a must. I tend to just use cheap headphones and ipod headphones as they all seem to break. A lot of my ipod headphones have given me electric shocks, slightly worrying! I’d love to get a pair of wireless headphones at some point to avoid getting tangled while I run.

Sustenance
I get HAngry after the gym, so there’s always a mini snack in my bag along with a waterbottle. On the way to Speedflex I usually eat a banana during the tube ride- annoying all the early morning commuters, I’m sure!

At the moment my gym bag is actually a hessian shopping bag, not so glamourous. After seeing the new Goddess III bag from WorkPlay Bags I’ve added it to my wish list- I want it so much!! They’ve literally thought of everything, including a wet compartment, a jewellery pouch, water bottle pocket, shoe compartment and removable mirror.

    I never thought of taking printed workouts, great idea, might look through some of your NYC training treadmill ones and have a print 🙂

    99.5% of the time I head home after the gym so if I forget knickers or something it’s usually ok. My top items: bathing suit (for post workout hot tub), goggles (for swimming), deodorant, iPhone/headphones, and a towel!

    I totally want a GoddessIII as well. 🙂

    Oh jesus I forgot everything on my run into work once – even my towel, so had to dry myself with 1,000 paper towels after a shower with just handwash! Gonna start regular runcommutes in the new year so top 5 items to keep at work: underwear, towel, shampoo/conditioner/shower gel, change of clothes. 🙂

    I go commando for exercise if I’ve forgotten my post sweat underwear, it’s the most horrible thing. I once had to text my housemate to bring me a pair whilst I was at Uni!
