Tokyo Marathon Training Vlog Week 1

Dec 12, 2016 | Running | 6 comments

I’m vlogging my marathon training…although apparently I’m not very good at it yet considering I forgot to film two days. Whoops. (Apparently not very good at Blogmas either as I missed three days due to Uni work and life getting in the way, apologies!)

Would love if you could give my video a watch, a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel.

Anyway, below is a write up of the weeks workouts – I am loving the fun speed/quality workouts. They’re unlike any that I’ve done before, and definitely a challenge… But a good challenge.

Monday – 60 minutes easy run – 1 mile to the river to meet my cousin, 4 miles with her and her dog along the Thames path, 1 mile home. Perfect sunny day!

Tuesday – 2 mile warm up. 6 X 2 minutes @ 7.40 pace with 90 seconds recovery, 3 min rest. 6 X 2 minutes @7.40 pace with 60 seconds recovery. 1 mile cool down.

In reality I did 2 miles warm up – 9.48, 9.33

6 x 2 mins (7.27, 7.34, 7.23, 7.34, 7.39, 7.27 pace for each 0.25ish miles)

3 mins rest

6 x 2 mins (7.26, 7.26, 7.58, 7.39, 7.24, 7.23 for each 0.25ish miles)

1 untimed mile home.

Tokyo Marathon Training

Wednesday – 30 minutes with the dogs that I look after, they were really distracted – stopping to smell everything. I was supposed to run for 45 minutes with them but ended up going to the supermarket to buy dinner after 30 mins! SO much for No Excuses as my mantra…must do better.

Thursday – 60 minutes easy paced run on the plan, in reality I ran for 45 minutes and it was a slog. I felt heavy, frustrated and kept getting disrupted by emails/texts/calls – so I bailed early and swapped it with my Friday run.

Friday – 60 early morning miles, remembered how much I prefer running first thing. Ran just over 6 miles at 9.45 pace.

Saturday – 2 mile warm up, 20 mins @ 8.10 pace, 2 mile cool down

In reality, I put this run off all day. I tried on wedding dresses in the morning and didn’t want to turn up with the post-run sweats/hunger, however it rained all day so it ended up being a very wet and dark 6.5 miles.

2 mile warm up – 9.16, 9.52

20 mins – 8.12, 8.08, 8.06

2 mile cool down – 9.39, 9.28

Sunday – 5.25 miles at 10 min pace with TRIBE run. Lovely running and chatting along the Thames in the sunshine.

TRIBE running Henley

Some of you might have noticed there was no rest day this week, and this was intentional. I’m addressing it in a full blog post this week so stay tuned for the science behind it…

Relatively new reader here. I would love to hear more about how you decided to run and how you registered for the Tokyo Marathon– is there a lottery? It’s on my bucket list… hopefully in 2018!
