Sweaty Speed Sessions

Jul 18, 2013 | Running | 9 comments

The only way to run faster, is to train faster.

Yes you can work on weights, flexibility, your nutrition. But to run faster during a race, your body needs to be used to running faster during training. There are a couple of ways to do this;

  • run with a faster friend
  • run on a treadmill at a set pace
  • complete track-like workouts
Track workouts can be intimidating, especially when you’re new to them (like me!) and workouts like 8 x 400m can seem like a lot. So, Becs and I have teamed up with Sweaty Betty, to bring you free Sweaty Speed Workouts.

The weekly track sessions will take place at Regent’s Park Track, on a Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. We will meet at the track for an hour long session- suitable for all running levels, although basic fitness is best!
The sessions will run for 6 weeks, starting on Wednesday 31st July. You can sign up to join the session by ringing the Soho Sweaty Betty shop on 0207 287 5128, and signing up on the day or day before. You must be a Sweaty Betty member, but you can sign up over the phone and it’s free to join!! (plus you get an extra 10% off during their sales-brilliant!)
Please arrive at Regent’s Park ready to run as there are no changing facilities at the track (although there is The Hub  where you can pay to use the showers etc). Bring plenty of water, and maybe a post-run snack. I may bring brownies for the last week- those of you that have read this blog before know that I will always run for brownies.
Theses sessions are perfect for runners who want to run faster, increase their 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon times, and for those looking for a great workout. We’re aiming to get everyone together to do a Park Run at the end of the 6 weeks, to see just how much you’ve improved. We’ll have a couple of stopwatches/timers, but if you have your own or a phone with stopwatch, please bring it- it will be great to record your splits over the next couple of weeks and watch your times decrease!!
We’ll be meeting at the track, in the left hand corner- wearing Sweaty Betty bibs- you won’t miss us! Hope to see you there. And if you can’t make it, or don’t live in London, we’ll be posting our track workouts each week so that you can do them yourself!

    Lovely idea. Pushing yourself that little bit harder is so much more difficult when you’re out running on your own. Shame I’m nowhere near London. πŸ™ Hope you get lots of takers! πŸ™‚

      Either pop into one of the shops or ring them up and sign up over the phone. It’s totally free. We’ll bring some forms to the session tomorrow so can sign you up there too!

    Charlie,

    Could you let me know about my last comment? That is, if I can’t make it tomorrow, can I come to the sessions after that?

    Thanks so much,

    Lizi
