Sub 1.50 Half Marathon Treadmill Training Run

Mar 11, 2014 | Running | 9 comments

AKA my longest treadmill run to date.

I’m usually quite good at hitting a consistant pace when I’m running, and can run on feel (with a few glances at my watch) most of the time. However when I’m trying to hit a particular pace that is faster than my usual pace then I’ll do my first training run at that pace on the treadmill so that my mind and body understands what the pace feels like.

I actually don’t mind running on the treadmill when I’m using it for a speed session or completing an interval workout, but I do find it boring running at one pace for longer than 10-15mins at one speed (especially when the TV doesn’t work).

This workout was a long one for the treadmill, and tough mentally and physically. It was nearly 8 miles on the treadmill, but you could easily complete this workout outside if you want. I’ve got this training run on my plan for this week again, but I’ll definitely be taking it to the pavement.

Definitely a sweaty mess by the time I hopped off the treadmill, foam rolled and got ready for work.

Do you use MPH or KPH on the treadmill and when you’re out on a run?

Urgh I did 6 the other day and found that fiddling with the machine helped distract me! What did you listen to?

I always said I could never run on the treadmill and then I did 13.1 miles the other day on the treadmill which is about 9 miles more than I have ever had the patience to do before. For me the key I found was watching TV and movies. Very distracting from the monotony.

This workout looks awesome. My Half PR is 1:56 so I am definitely looking to be around that 1:50 mark this year.

wow 13.1 is a great effort! Well done! I want to get a treadmill at home for next winter so that I can do my workouts in front of the TV!

I did 10 miles one thundering day last year training for a half and started early in the morning so I basically watched all of Saturday kitchen, great distraction and I definitely worked up an appetite after!

That is hardcore, I don’t think I’ve done much more than 6 on a treadmill, just find it so dull. I did like using it once a week for an interval workout though, as like you say it’s easier to control the pace.

Good work! I did 8 miles on a treadmill once … never again! Although I like the idea of playing with the speeds. Mine was at one speed. SO dull! I use kilometres per hour on the treadmill but minutes per mile when running outside!
