Outdoor Spinning Class

Sep 2, 2013 | Uncategorized | 2 comments

I love exercise classes, and find them a great way to push myself and keep things interesting. But when the weather is lovely, I would far rather workout outside and enjoy the sunshine while I can! Well, I’m obviously not the only one who thinks this, as Spin Out Fitness have started offering outdoor spinning classes.

You use your own bike for the class, clipped in to a bike trainer, although for this class we borrowed bikes. You can use a road or hybrid bike, however mountain bikes don’t fit into the trainer. We lucked out with a gorgeous evening for our class, and enjoyed a gorgeous sun set during the session. We were given wireless headphones, so that we could hear the instructor and listen to some great old school music to get us through! Sort of a like a Silent Disco spinning class! I brought my friend Loz with me to the class- she ran her first marathon this year!!

We started with a warm up, then completed intervals of up to 4 mins long at 70% intensity, with 2/3 min working rests between. This got the legs working and heart rate up, and we were soon pretty sweaty, although the breeze meant that it was far more pleasant than most indoor spinning classes (the midges weren’t great though!).

After the intervals we had a long, slow hill climb. This took us through a lot of gears on the bike, and was pretty tough on the legs! The instructor told us to think about a hill that we wanted to conquer, and to smash it. I thought about Ditchling Beacon during the London to Brighton bike ride and pushed hard.
We followed the hill climb we took on some sprints to shake the legs out. All in all, a great workout and a brilliant way to enjoy Clapham Common on a lovely night. I think some people thought we were a little odd, with a couple taking photos of us whilst working out! It wasn’t as tough on the legs as a normal spinning class, which meant it was perfect crosstraining for New York!!

Classes run on a Tuesday and Thursday evening throughout the summer, although this is the final week for this year. If you’re in London and free on Thursday, I recommend giving it a go. Alternatively, follow them on twitter to find out when they are starting up their classes again next year!

What’s your favourite exercise class? I really like trying new ones- some I love, some I don’t love!!

I was given a complimentary pass for Spin Out, all opinions are my own.

This looks all kinds of hilarious fun. Silent disco while on a real bike clipped in to a trainer while OUTDOORS? It’s all things awesome at once. Looks fab!

Wow that looks like so much fun! I’ve always been scared of spin, but this I would try!
