Greetings From New Zealand

Hello from the other side of the world!

I am currently in a small town called Akaroa, just south of Christchurch, New Zealand.
The journey to get to New Zealand from the UK involved a 12 and a half hour flight from London to Singapore, followed by a quick dash across the airport to catch another 9 and a half hour flight to Christchurch, NZ. I managed to sleep for a solid 9 hours on the first flight, and another 4 and a half on the second!
We landed at Christchurch and met up with my Mum and step-dad. We didn’t have a hotel base in Christchurch, so took advantage of the showers at the airport and rented towels for $5NZ. Highly recommended after nearly 24 hours travelling.
After showering and freshening up, we enjoyed a ‘flat white with trim milk’- ie a skinny americano!
Our afternoon plan involved lunch and a tour of Christchurch post earthquake. We found a lovely cafe in the botanic gardens called the ‘Curator’s House’.
The food was delicious, but the service was a little slow. I went for a breaded chicken with extra salad, while the others enjoyed panfried Grouper and lamb.
I’ll write another post about our open top bus tour of Christchurch. It was fascinating but really sad to see the damage done by the earthquake and how it’s affecting Christchurch nearly 2 years on.
