Fashion Faves: Summer Sale Purchases

Jun 19, 2019 | life updates, Lifestyle | 2 comments

With trips to Portugal, Greece and Canada planned for this summer, I need a fairly versatile summer wardrobe. I took advantage of the sales to buy a few new items and have rearrange my wardrobe to make the fave items easier to find and style with the new purchases. However, if the weather stays as it is in the UK, I’ll need to dig out some of my winter jumpers too.

One of my aims is to look slightly more presentable, as it’s happened too often that Tom has had to tell me that ‘sports kit is not acceptable’ or my friends offer to let me shower at their house. lol.

With that said, I thought I’d start a Friday Favourites going forward (was too inpatient to wait for this Friday!) including some ‘fashion’ posts. (fashion very much in inverted commas as I am not fashionable!!)

Wedding Guest Outfits

I have four weddings, Royal Ascot and the Henley Festival this summer where I need smart outfits/dresses. And having reworn a number of my dresses over the years, I’m totally bored of them!

Royal Ascot is this Friday – don’t forget to follow my Instagram for full outfit and race day shenanigans. My dress is from Whistles (not in the sale) but they also have some great dresses in the sale. I really like this maxi dress – I think it would look cute with sandals and a leather jacket or denim jacket – or dressed up for a summer wedding. This maxi dress is also gorgeous and reminds me of my favourite polka dot maxi from Coast a few years ago.

I bought this dark green dress to wear to a wedding with big earrings and these shoe boots and have had it altered to fit perfectly. I do that quite a lot with sale items as they don’t always fit as well (or they don’t have it in my size). I haven’t got anything in that colour and recently saw a friend wearing something gorgeous in that tone which inspired me to try it – bit lighter than my traditional black or navy!

The dress below is a more casual Whistles sale number. I LOVE the colour of this dress (and it’s £45 in the sale – ideal for a summer wedding or holiday! I’d dress down with a denim jacket and Birkenstocks)

The Navy Open back playsuit that I wore to a recent wedding is also now in the sale (don’t you hate when that happens!) And they have it in black and pink too. I’m thinking of ordering this pink dress in the sale to try on – could look great or awful!

Originally I’d ordered this dress (in black) from Sezane for Royal Ascot (excuse the terrible photo) but apparently it doesn’t fit the dress code (they are very strict on length of dress and the straps!). Instead I’m going to wear it to Henley Festival with a tan bucket bag (like this one) or summery wooden/wicker bag.

I also loved this strapless polka dot Sezane dress but unfortunately the 12 was too big on my body but too small on my boobs.

Similar in style was these lemon dresses which would be so cute for a beach or city break this summer – I’ve ordered the white one below for our trip to Greece.

Shoes

I have a bit of a shoe problem. For as long as I can remember it has been a thing, with friends and family buying me cards with shoes on. Not designer shoes, just lots of shoes. Especially trainers now.

I have a real thing for Birkenstocks, mostly because they are so comfy and actually good for your feet (unlike most sandals we wear). I bought this metallic grey pair in the Office Sale, and this pink pair in the Schuh sale. Plus I think I may have to invest in a rubber pair to wear to the lake/pool this summer.

Chunky heels are my thing, I have various colours of thick heeled sandals that I wear to weddings, parties etc. I found this white/cream pair in the Office sale to wear to Ascot last week and fell in love with these shoeboots while I was in the store. Sadly the only pair they had in stock was discoloured from being on display so I was thrilled to find them online. I ordered the Taupe/nude colour but may have to get a pair of the black if I end up wearing them a lot.

I’ve been keen to buy a pair of flat black mules and some heeled mules for a while. I found this heeled pair on sale at Office (for under £20!), and love this Mango pair (sadly not available in my size otherwise I would have snapped them up).

These pointed toe bow slides have been on my wish list since I first saw them in J Crew in March, however I’m just not sure I can justify the price. Even in the sale… they were £154, now £108. What do you think?

Casual Summer Pieces

I wanted to get some cute dresses, shorts and tops/tees to wear on my holidays (and if it ever warms up here in the UK!)

I think this dress would be perfect for my trip to Greece this summer, sightseeing in Athens (although I will melt!) or out for drinks/dinner. This linen day dress would also be cute for a city break, meetings in London or just an evening at the pub with friends. I have a similar one from J Crew Factory last summer in the stripes and I wear it a lot so have ordered the navy version. This top is plain, simple but could be dressed up or down this summer.

This black ruched jersey dress would be so cute coupled with trainers, sandals or mules or this similar New Look number.

This ‘Donut Worry’ t-shirt is fun (and totally me post-swim devouring a donut in the Tesco carpark!) I bought this cute t-shirt saying ‘Always be kind’ from Topshop and have been wearing it on repeat ever since. I had a number of questions about the jeans below – they are Topshop Editor Jeans (they don’t seem to have many online anymore but these straight leg version are similar or these straight leg button jeans.
