Fit in Review: 2015 in Sweat

Dec 31, 2015 | Uncategorized | 4 comments

I saw this idea on ShapinUp blog, and thought it was a fun post. I was on marathon ban for a lot of the year, and I think I lost my mojo somewhat, but still managed to achieve some fun goals. Whilst I don’t have a marathon planned for 2016 (yet) there are a lot of things I’d like to do and achieve, but for now, lets take a look back through 2015…
Cycling to Paris

I cycled to Paris.

Three friends and I cycled self-supported from London to Paris for the weekend. We took on the 200 miles over three days, sleeping on the Ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe and following the Route Verte all the way to Paris. It’s not quite as easy to follow as we first thought, and takes you across some rather bumpy roads (we had quite a few punctures along the way!). I’m hoping we’ll cycle to Amsterdam in Summer 2016!

Chicago marathon mile 13

I ran the Chicago Marathon

Definitely not my finest or favourite marathon, but I’m proud of myself for pushing onwards and finishing despite everything. I missed my BQ goal by a laughable 35 minutes, and it knocked my confidence and determination for a while but I think it’s a good thing in the long run. We had an amazing holiday before and after the marathon, and I can’t wait for my next US marathon – they really do put on the best races.

Tom marathon 9

Tom ran his First Marathon

This made me so so happy. I loved watching him train (and joining him on a few runs). I think Tom found a new respect for the 26.2 mile distance, and was a much better spectator in Chicago because of it! It made my day when he ran up to me at mile 21 for a massive hug. I hope one day we can run a marathon together- fingers crossed.

rooftop yoga

I joined ClassPass

ClassPass has honestly transformed my fitness regime. I love that I can go to unlimited fitness classes across London, including some of the top tier clubs such as 1Rebel, Core Collective, Ride Republic (and am keeping fingers and toes crossed that some other major clubs join in the New Year). You can use your ClassPass around the world too, they are across the US and now in Sydney. I used my ClassPass passport in New York, Chicago and Washington DC! This is my affiliate link – it doesn’t cost you anymore to use but a little £ goes towards my ClassPass habit – thanks in advance!

Vitality West Run

I ran a 10K PB

This was a little bit of a surprise as I certainly didn’t feel in PB shape, but the months of speed work and tempo runs over the Summer must have paid off. I ran a 47. 58 on a crowded, windy course around Fulham. It was a bit of a boost after failing so miserably with my goal in Chicago to know that I am actually getting faster!

What were your top fitness achievements in 2015?

That doesn’t sounds like not achieving a huge amount to me Charlie, well done! I missed my 10k PB as er… well. Forgot to train for it didn’t I, then pulled out of the race as cba. But, I did get a marathon PB, half marathon PB, did my first triathlon and started skateboarding 🙂 My 2015 review is over on the blog but I’ve just written my 2016 goals too.

I’d say you’ve had a very sweaty year. How many fitness classes have you been to?! For me my top fitness achievements were walking 40 miles over two days across the North Yorkshire Moors, and walking 32 miles in one day on my own just to see if I could. I know it’s only walking but that’s my favourite 🙂
    Here’s to a particularly awesome 2016 x
