First Impressions of the Adidas Supernova Rise 3

Jan 25, 2026 | Kit, Running

In a world where fast shoes get a lot of attention, the daily trainer often gets overlooked. But in reality, we do most of our mileage in our everyday shoes, the easy miles, the volume, the warm ups/cool downs – the important stuff that makes up the bulk of our training.

And yet the carbon plated shoes are the sexy ones. The ones that we google, watch and read reviews religiously before spending our money (and often lots of it) on the latest racers.

Some of my favourite shoes are the reliable, comfy, OK my max cush trainers. One of my goals for 2026 is to review and share my honest thoughts on these daily trainers to help you find ones that you love, that make you want to lace up even when motivation is low or your body is sore from marathon mileage/gym workouts.

Also lets face it, with two small kids at home now (one who was recently sent his own pair of boys trainers and now wants to wear his ‘fast shoes’ all the time) most of my mileage is easy miles. Why are little kids running shoes so cute??

Adidas Supernova Rise 3 Review

I didn’t try the Rise 2 so I’m not able to compare but from what I can see online, people think this version is a big upgrade.

Designed by adidas to be comfortable and very stable, I really like the sculpting in the foam but overall found the shoe looked a little dated and cheap in the orange/silver colourway. I think i”m so used to the EVO SL looking so sleek at the same price that I was a little disappointed by the style of the Rise 3.

The biggest change is the Dreamstrike+ foam that now runs the full length of the shoe. In Dreamstrike + foam, Adidas have adjusted the Lightstrike Pro foam that they use in their racing shoes and made it into a PEBA-blend foam that works for the everyday. It’s the Adidas equivalent to the New Balance FuelCell and I can definitely see this shoe being compared with the NB 1080 v15 for everyday workhorse runs especially given the release timings!

Adidas report that their Rise 3 Dreamstrike+ foam is 20% softer and 20% bouncier than the Rise 2, with 16% more volume of foam added.

This is a neutral shoe, with the wide footbase and lateral landing platform at the back providing the only stability. I’m someone who is trends neutral however I can sometimes overpronate when tired, in shoes without enough support or on uneven terrain – overall I found this shoe more stable than the EVO SL but need to increase the mileage to really put them to the test.

As a heel striker, I really like the extra cushioning and support in the back of the foot with a wide base. As someone with a wider foot I can sometimes struggle in Adidas but found these were roomy enough in the toe box however some runners may find the mid-foot section quite narrow and may want to  wait for the wide version.

The primeweave upper has been updated from the Supernova Rise 2 and is really comfortable and breathable. I was able to get a secure locked in fit despite the soft, sock-like upper (and it wasn’t too tight even with thicker socks). It is quite thin and so I would be interested to see what the wear and tear is like on it.

With Lighttraxion outsole, Adidas have moved away from their traditional Continental rubber sole which provides plenty of grip without being bulky or adding weight.

Adidas Supernova Rise 3 vs EVO SL

One of my favourite daily trainers that work for speedier stuff too are the Adidas EVO SL – read my full review here

The Supernova Rise 3 is more of a cushioned stable daily trainer, good to easy miles and mid-long runs. They are a great beginner shoe for those building mileage whilst the EVO SL are more of a responsive, versatile trainer for easy to speedier runs. I actually ran the Berlin Marathon 2024 in the EVO SL!

Personally, I think the EVO SL look more sleek than the Supernova Rise 3, especially in the launch colourways. The white/blue and white/pink/orange options are much cuter than the orange and silver colour that seems to be the hero product.

Is the Adidas Supernova Rise 3 worth it

I’ve only got 10 miles in this shoe so far so I’ll update this post when I’ve got more distance in them. But initial thoughts on them are…I like them but would personally choose something a little softer for my easy run/recovery shoe and something with a little more pop for tempo/longer runs. However I can see this fitting as the inbetween, a do all trainer that is soft enough to feel comfy on those little plods but stable enough to see you through the longer stuff.

They are positioned as a mid-tier daily trainer, much like the Asics Novoblast (which I found a little more bouncy) I’m excited to see if the Supernova Rise 3 fits into my rotation as it is meant to – a really reliable running shoe that works for easy miles and can pick up the pace a little too.
