Chicago Marathon Training : Week 7

Aug 10, 2015 | Uncategorized | 18 comments

This week has had great sessions, and some not so great sessions. Here’s how they went down…

Monday – BarreSTRETCH with Sophie for a good old stretch and foam roll.

Tuesday – My first proper track session ever. I woke up stupidly early and headed to the track in Barnes to complete the following ladder workout.

400m – 1.30

800m – 3.20

1200m – 5.03

1600m – 6.56 (MY FASTEST EVER MILE!)

1200m – 5.06

800m – 3.17

400m – 1.31

Wednesday –  Project Awesome & Barrecore

ThursdayBarrecore & a progression run. 9.02, 8.43, 8.26, 8.13, 8.01, 7.38. It was a beautiful evening, and although the run was tough at times, it was really enjoyable. Plus the Thames was the highest I’ve ever seen!

Friday – I had 10 miles on the schedule at 8.10 pace which just did NOT happen. I managed 8.5 miles at a struggle at 8.12 min mile pace before turning my Garmin off in a strop and running the rest of the way…to the coffee shop. An eye opener for how fast 8 min miles are!! I want to try this workout again on rested legs (and not at 5.45am!) soon!

SaturdayLanrick Challenge – 15K. This was brutal and included 30+ obstacles, lake crossings, a swamp pit, fire jump, log challenges, a slide. It took us nearly 3 hours! So much fun running with my friend Katy and her fiancé, Sam, who live close by. Full race recap and more photos coming tomorrow!

Sunday – REST! Driving home in the car

Well done on your fastest ever mile! Your same-distance splits on the ladder workout are really consistent as well.
    Great week of workouts! 🙂

Well done on your fastest ever mile but do you think you are doing too much? Two sessions the day before a long run sounds hard! Your legs must have been tired! X

Yes in regards to those 2 hard sessions, but I need to get my cardio fitness up a fair amount in the next few weeks! It’s still letting me down!

Well done Charlie! Looks like your training is going really well! You’re too hard on yourself though – only 2 seconds and 1.5 miles off your target run on Friday, and that was after a fairly hard session the evening before (you must have only had about 10-12 hours rest max?!)

I agree- rest is one of the most crucial aspects of training, and this week I don’t think I had enough!

You were close to pace lady! I had a pace longer run this weekend and didn’t quite hit my pace on all the miles but it’s okay. Maybe add a less strenuous workout the day before your long run as well!

Yes, slowly but surely my pace is improving! I remember when I found 10 min miles impossible!
