When I was younger and I would go back-to-school stationery shopping, I would get into WHSmith and immediately need a wee because I was just so excited. I love stationery shopping! New notebooks, pens, folders, paper, diaries- I love it all.
Luckily my Mum is just as much of a stationery geek as I am so jumped at the chance to hit Westfield with me a few weeks ago.
I immediately obsessed over the Kate Spade selection at John Lewis, but managed to limit my purchases to the Kate Spade gold pencil case – it’s filled with pencils, a ruler, sharpener and rubber. Plus it could work as a makeup bag too.
Whilst in John Lewis I also bought a pink and gold dotty notebook and some of these cute little cheerful pencils from Happy Jackson to cheer up early Monday lectures. I’ve got my eye on their little lunch boxes and thermos cups, great for those of you that don’t need stationery but that take snacks/packed lunches with you to work.
Next stop on our shopping spree was to Paperchase where I debated getting some of their chips/burger/fast food stationery before deciding that it might not go down too well on my Dietetics course. Instead I opted for the slightly more classic Raindrops lever arch file and some funky patterned lined paper.
After a quick pit stop for burgers at Shake Shack, we stopped by WHSmith to pick up some more lever arch files, dividers, and pens. I bought the Polka Dot Aqua and Pink lever arch folders, plus a cute owl patterned lever arch that seems to have sold out already!
As well as new stationery, I’ve also been sent a list of recommended text books and they are not cheap. I bought the The Composition of Food from Public Health England for £50 and am waiting until we start to establish whether I need my own copies of the other texts.
Have you heard of S’Well bottles? They are snazzy thermos bottles that keep your drink hot or cold for hours on end – 12 hours for hot drinks and 24 hours for cold drinks. I bought a heart patterned bottle to take to Uni with me for some mid-morning coffee breaks (my hours on a Thursday run straight through from 9am-6pm!!) I think it would also be a convenient and safe way of keeping soup hot in your packed lunch.
My first day at Uni is on Thursday and I’m pretty excited to get started!
Good luck and have an amazing time 🙂
How exciting! I’m obsessed with stationery too, I swear I could spend all my wages in Paperchase 😀 and now I need to go and check out JL! 😀 Best of luck with your course 🙂
Wow! Big spender! Good luck at UNI. G
I’m exactly the same – it is worrying how much more productive and happy i feel with good stationery! Good luck – enjoy it!

I’d wait and see how you can get on with using the library text books. I bought them all in first year and regretted it! The one that I did use was a metabolism and human nutrition book, I used it from second year to the end and it was really useful to own. Anyway good luck at uni, I graduated from dietetics last year, so it’ll be fun to follow you through 🙂
Thanks Leigh, great advice! And congrats on graduating!
THAT IS ONE THING I totally miss about back to school – the shopping for SUPPLIES!!!! NEED ALL THE SUPPLIES 😉
Haha I know, I was so excited!
So funny…when I went back to college in January, I had SO much fun in Staples buying notebooks/highlighters/pens/post-its. I love being a student!!!
Also, I rent my textbooks from amazon. Worth a try. You can’t make notes in them (thus the post-its) but def cheaper. Also my college bookstore rents books as well as sells them, renting seems to be the done thing here. Have a look! I thought I’d want to buy them and keep them for reference but so far, there’s only one book I wish I’d bought and six that I’m glad I didn’t!
Wow I didn’t know you could do that, sounds brilliant! Will check out the Amazon rentals!
I LOVE all the Kate Spade stationary and her planners (well, I love everything Kate Spade.) And S’well bottles are the best! Good luck with your orientation this week – very exciting!!!
Thank you, Kate Spade & S’well bottles- swoon! I am like the girl with all the gear and no idea at the front of the lecture! Quite envious of your small intake!
